Panting

The moon, heavy
as I drive down the silent highway
races with me
dragging its weight
over the neems and tamarinds
torn by the scraggy branches of eucalyptus
briefly disappears behind a dark house
exhausted I pull up my car
hear the heavy breath of the earth around me
as the night swells in the pearly softness of moonlight.
