Subterranean Tumescence

The first rain on the petals,
slick of tongue on dust.
Smell of the earth
as my body ached for you;
the pollen of lantana tumbled
smell of sex where it flew,
the turbid air between thick with lust.
Moistness unearthed in me,
sodden like the soil between turmeric plants;
the bulbs prodded
but your fingers remained inert
as whispers of worms from stalks translucent
agonised me.
